Gateway Continues To Brick – The Story Continues

Five days ago i posted this article, speaking about information on bricking code that was implemented into gateways new Launcher, this in Gateways defense was to protect their piracy hardware from so called “gangster cloners”.

Crediar a well known person in the Wii/Wii U scene gave information that this brick code could also affect genuine Gateway owners and not just those with clones, but of course the Gateway Team continued to deny this, releasing this statement:

This is Gateway official support and sales email.

We do not answer rumors, speculations and other tactics from people who are not
even real competitors but simply companies stealing our hard work. It would be
just taking away our time from what we owe our customers: Bringing them a better
and better experience with Gateway new firmware, functions and compatibility.

We have an official statement on our homepage here:
http://www.gateway-3ds.com/
If you are not a Gateway customer, please simply contact your product
manufacturer. We only offer warranty and support for genuine Gateway card.

Simply put, we do not care about others. Our focus is to bring the best
experience to genuine Gateway users.
We can confirm that NO Gateway user had any issue with their console or their
Gateway card. And this will remain the same in the future, thanks to our team
hard work on proper testing and quality manufacturing. Another story created by
scammers about possible bricks due to faulty SD cards etc. is also false, and
just spread by clone producer claiming to be Gateway customers.

Exciting news are coming soon with our final firmware 2.0. And beyond that, much
more is still to come that will delight all our loyal customers

Even though the Gateway Team deny all responsibility for these bricks, reports start coming in from genuine Gateway owners, who have had their 3DS bricked by the official gateway Launcher, like apollooo from GBATemp, who posted this thread:

i was playing earlier, and after i finished playing i went to sleep. after that i turned my 3DS on and it shows bluescreen.

here’s a pic to prove it:

i NEVER use custom LAUNCHER.DAT. all the files in my DS both the launcher and the blue card files are downloaded from gateway site.

The thread was joined shortly after on Gateways official support forum, by another Gateway owner who had his 3DS bricked, here is what he said:

Hello guys, you may know me by this post: http://www.maxconsole.com/maxcon_for…ar-on-the-menu
After trying to enter GW Mode with a zelda game plugged in i got a Blue Screen with an official gateway card and legit gateway firmware. Every time i turn the ds on and off, it keeps throwing this blue screen.
How to solve this, any way to format the 3ds???
The messages on the screen are:
BOOTROM 8046
ERRCODE: 00F800EF
FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
00000008 00000000

Of course both people complaining of problems with their consoles, were called liars by Gateway fanboys, or told that they must have used an unofficial launcher.

The Gateway Team continue to deny any problems are caused by them or their code, here is what the team said in reply to a question asked by another GBATemp member:

>We have an official statement on our homepage here:

>We try to answer all threads, and everytime, same story: They were lying and
>used another card, but it is endless.
>Bottom line is: You are 100 safe, and even if your console had a problem, which
>won’t happen, we will gladly exchange it for you. Because WE care about our

Yet reports of bricks with people using genuine Gateway hardware/software continue:

So well. I can confirm that the Gateway brick is legit. It just happened to a french friend using a 4.5 3DS with the lastest firmware.

Not using it anymore until it is fixed.

Gateway eventually release this statement:

First of all, we want to reinsure you that all Gateway users will receive full support. We care about our customers.

Exceptionally, the tone of this normally standard support request email might be a bit harsh because of the abuse claims made by clone producer staff pretending of bricks, which were proven to be just part of their marketing plan to make customers believe we also have issues with console bricking. To be clear, we already had dozen of claims which just were proven to be fake. Unfortunately this cost us time away from doing what we do best, bringing you constant updates to make your Gateway experience better and better.

We still answer every single request to be sure no genuine Gateway user is left out.

If your console is bricked, and you only used the files we provided on our website, then it is almost certain this is not related to Gateway, but we will gladly help you to thank you for your support and purchase. We mean it was probably just an accidental bricking, like it happens sometimes for mainstream Nintendo 3DS users or any device in fact who do not use any accessories. But we will fix it for you, gladly.

We will send you back your console repaired – most of the case – or a brand new console.

As you can imagine, we can read any Nintendo 3Ds like a book. If you send us a console that was bricked any other way – most likely using a clone product (MT card, 3DS Link, R4i 3DS etc.) – we will instantly see it, and you will be required a $100 shipping and handling fee to return your bricked console.

***
IMPORTANT: ALL returns must include your Nintendo 3DS, GATEWAY RED CARD and your SD CARD. Any incomplete return will be handled as above, with a $100 shipping and handling fee to return the console & accessories. In addition to the console GW red card and SD card if possible please copy your Nand backup file to the SD card , if not possible we will do our best to recover your unit, but it is considerably harder for us.
***

To send us your console, Gateway and SD card, please contact your vendor, and email us the tracking number and vendor’s name. We will handle the rest.

Again, we want to apologize for the harsh terms of this email. We normally provide friendly and quick support. But the clone team is a very organized mafia which uses dozens of fake Gateway users to pretend their problem are theirs. We hate to make it complex for you, but their actions force us to act this way to find the right balance between proper support and still being able to work on updates to keep Gateway moving forward.

We will for sure repair any legit damaged console, even if it is unrelated to us, as long as it doesn’t come from a clone use. We will not pretend if comes from a clone use if it didn’t. We can instantly and clearly see when a clone was used, without any possible mistake. So rest assure again, if you did not use a clone, we will fix your console.

Why we establish those conditions is because we know that otherwise, the clone army of paid forum posters will send us hundreds of consoles just to again waste our time, so we can’t update our firmware and provide good support to our customer. It is a crazy situation but unfortunately there is nothing we can do.

Thanks for your understanding! Again, we stand by you, and look forward to much more to come from us. First being sending you back your console good as new!

What that basically says, is that if the Gateway Team think your 3DS is bricked by using a Clone, they will hold your bricked 3DS, Gateway Cart and microSD Card at ransom, until you pay them $100 to return your bricked console.

What this also tell us, is that the Gateway Team have a way of fixing the bricks that they caused, but would rather charge you, either way they win:
A.) You don’t send your 3DS back, you have a permanent brick.
B.) You send it back, they claim you used a clone or unofficial software, they charge you $100 to send back your brick.
C.) You send it back, they lie, saying you used unofficial software, you refuse to give them $100, they keep your products and sell them on.

And the bricks continue to surface:

Well, i just bricked my 3ds with a legit GW and i don´t know what to do…
My SD its fine and i haven´t used any clones or Region free patch, srsly halp!
As you can see in my other posts i support GW but now i´ve been fucked :(

How will this end ?
My guess is that Gateway will be fully cracked, there will be a software version released and people will be able to do what they could with Gateway, but for free.

Regardless, adding a brick code to your launcher, is a dirty, disgusting move, you should either have the balls to stand up and accept competition, or learn how to protect your product better, but making your genuine customers suffer is wrong.
